Frequently Asked

Questions about UAE free zone setup.

Free zone companies are generally restricted from trading directly within the UAE mainland without a mainland licence or a local distribution partner. However, they can trade freely outside the UAE and within their own free zone. Some free zones — particularly JAFZA — offer designated zones status that allows certain import and re-export activities. We advise on the best structure for your specific trading requirements.

Visa allocations vary by free zone and the type of office package you select. Flexi-desk packages typically offer two to three visas, while dedicated office units offer higher allocations. We compare visa quotas across zones as part of our selection process and recommend the package that meets your staffing requirements cost-effectively.

IFZA, SHAMS and RAKEZ consistently offer some of the most competitive licence packages, often starting from AED 11,000–15,000 per year including visa allocations. However, the cheapest zone is not always the best fit — industry focus, jurisdiction reputation, banking relationships and office facilities all matter. We provide a transparent cost comparison tailored to your needs.

Most free zones issue licences within one to five business days once all documents are in order. DMCC and DIFC, which have more comprehensive registration processes, may take slightly longer. IFZA and SHAMS are among the fastest, often issuing licences within 24–48 hours. We track your application actively and keep you informed at every stage.
