Trademark Registration in the UAE

UAE trademark registration is managed by the Ministry of Economy's Trademark Office. A trademark application covers one class of goods or services under the Nice Classification system, with additional fees for each additional class. The registration process takes approximately six to twelve months and is valid for ten years, renewable indefinitely. UAE trademark registration protects your mark within the UAE. Patent Protection in the UAE

UAE patents are registered through the Ministry of Economy's Patent Office. A UAE patent is valid for 20 years from the filing date. The UAE is a member of the Paris Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), allowing UAE businesses to file internationally through a single PCT application. Patents protect technical inventions including products, processes, and systems. The UAE patent examination process can take two to four years. Provisional protection is available from the filing date.

Copyright Protection

Copyright in the UAE arises automatically upon creation of an original work without registration requirement. However, registering copyright with the Ministry of Economy provides evidence of ownership and strengthens enforcement claims. Copyright protection extends to literary works, software, music, artistic works, films, and databases. UAE copyright protection lasts for 50 years after the author's death for most categories.
